If we always think about the high temperatures that Africa is experiencing, we must not forget that the continent is sometimes subject to more or less heavy rains. In both Morocco and Tunisia, the Mediterranean climate offers warm temperatures that change according to the season. As in our latitudes, winter is the season that sees the most rainfall in northern Africa. Wondering when to go to Africa for a stay away from the rains? From Marrakech to Essaouira, passing through Agadir, winter will bring you mild temperatures, but also regular rains. Heading towards the south of the continent, the weather is divided into two periods: dry season and rainy season. In Senegal, for example, the rainy season runs from June to October. Temperatures are around 30°C and rainfall is particularly high from July to September. Once past the Equator, the seasons are reversed. In South Africa, for example, the southern winter begins to take its toll in May. Until September, temperatures rarely exceed 20°C and rainfall is omnipresent. On the Indian Ocean side, the climate takes on a tropical appearance, whether in Durban or Mozambique. The rainy season occurs between November and March, in the middle of our winter, and imposes intense rainfall and torrid temperatures.

Climate: the best time for a safari in Africa
You dream of crossing the big five in the heart of the savannah, but when to go to Africa to enjoy a rainless safari? If you opt for Kenya, the Amboseli or Masai Mara parks will welcome you for a safari in the sun, bathed in summer temperatures from July to October or December to March. South Africa is also one of the must-see safari destinations, especially the Kruger Park. To take full advantage of this incredibly rich reserve, schedule your safari during the dry season, between May and October. Here, as in neighbouring Mozambique, the southern winter offers mild temperatures during the day, ideal for a safari in the heart of nature with golden hues in a dry climate.
Did you know that? The Great Migration, the great meeting point of a safari
Every year, an estimated 2 million wildebeest, zebras and gazelles leave Tanzania's Serengeti National Park in April and May for the lush green plains further north. Until September, columns of herbivores will advance to the Masai Mara Park as the rains fall, before returning to the south in the middle of winter. Perhaps your safari will take you on their road?
From north to south: when to take advantage of optimal temperatures in Africa?
It is sometimes tricky to know when to go to Africa to enjoy the welcoming weather without being confronted with torrid temperatures. In North Africa, spring is the ideal season to enjoy the beauty of Marrakech, to go for a walk on the seafront of Agadir or to sunbathe on the beaches of Djerba. The weather in the off-season (September and October) will also be conducive to beautiful days in the open air that the rains will not disturb. In Senegal, it is in the heart of winter that you can enjoy optimal weather. From November to April, the coasts of the Cap Skirring are bathed in temperatures around 30°C and a radiant sunshine. This is the perfect climate for a relaxing getaway away from the cold European winter and our winter in South Africa corresponds to the southern summer. In Cape Town, the season from October to March is the most favourable for a trip under mild weather conditions. On the coast licked by the Indian Ocean, in Durban, as in Maputo in Mozambique, where the climate is tropical, the months of June, July and August (austral winter) correspond to the dry season. There is almost no rain and the thermometer stays around 25°C. If you are wondering when to go to Africa to dive in the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean, plan your holiday at this time of year! Between the Mediterranean climate of Morocco and Tunisia, the rainy season that sometimes occurs in Senegal and the inverted seasons in the southern part of the continent, it is not always easy to know when to go to Africa. For a safari, a lazy interlude or an escape to the great outdoors, you now know when to find the optimal weather to avoid the rains and enjoy mild temperatures throughout your stay.
