Tourist-paradise Thailand has a number of good locations to visit, and you’re bound to have a great vacation no matter where you go. For those going on a long trip to Thailand, though, it’s good to visit a mix of locations offering different things so you can have a wider perspective of what this beautiful country has to offer and be inspired in different ways. Here are our suggestions for where to go on your 2-week trip to Thailand.

Chiang Mai - 4 Days

While most travel guides will recommend that you start your Thailand trip in Bangkok, we recommend that you start it in the northern part of Thailand, specifically in Chiang Mai. This charming place has activities that cater to travellers of all types, whether you like nature, culture, adventure, or other types of experiences. Some things to add to your itinerary here are visiting the Elephant Nature Park, chatting with monks at Wat Doi Suthep, eating a traditional Northern Thai khantoke dinner, as well as climbing up the Bua Thong waterfalls. If you have the time, do visit the night bazaars around the town too. Chiang Mai has a laid-back vibe, so take the chance to enjoy some peace and tranquility as you unwind mentally and emotionally before heading to your next destination.

Bangkok - 3 Days

It will be a shame to visit a country and not visit its capital, hence why Bangkok makes the list. Compared to other locations in Thailand, Bangkok offers a striking contrast to what you see with the hustle and bustle of city life. Many travellers avoid coming here because of how busy the city can get, but actually, there is a lot you can do here to relax and better understand Thailand city life. Be sure to visit the much-revered Grand Palace, get a massage at Wat Pho, take amazing pictures of the landscape from Wat Arun, and most importantly, shop and eat till you drop at Chatuchak Weekend Market or pretty much any market you can find around Bangkok. For the eating part, you may consider booking a food tour so that a local guide can take you to all the best places for a truly Thai gastronomic experience.

Songkhla - 3 Days

Before you end your trip on a wondrous Phuket beach getaway, take a flight to Songkhla, a quaint little town at the southern part of Thailand. With its proximity so close to Malaysia, it’s unsurprising that Songkhla’s architecture and culture have Malay and Chinese influences. Rent a car here and visit a number of interesting attractions, including the Singora Tram Tour, Songkhla National Museum, Samila Beach, Songkhla Zoo, Songkhla Old Town, and Ko Yo. Songkhla has a laid back and mellow vibe, so it’s a good place to see a slightly less-touristy side of Thailand which is simple and peaceful for visitors seeking to reconnect with their inner selves. Relax and take in the charm of this place, letting yourself recover from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok.
