Following 26th September communication from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan the following countries are exempt of visa (short stay) starting from 11th October:​

  • Indonesia [note 1]​

  • South Korea​
  • Singapore​
  • Thailand [note 2]​ - 15 days​

    [note 1] For nationals of Indonesia (since December 1, 2014), visas are not required only for those who have registered ICAO-compliant ePassport to diplomatic missions of Japan in Indonesia (the embassy, consulates-general, or the consulate). Validity of the registration is three years period or until the passport expires, whichever comes first.​

    [note 2] For nationals of Malaysia (since July 1, 2013), Thailand (since July 1, 2013) and Serbia (since May 1, 2011) visas are not required only for holders of ePassport in compliance with ICAO standards. Those who do not hold such ePassport are advised to obtain a visa in advance, otherwise will be strictly examined and may be refused entry to Japan.​

    [note 3] For citizens of Hong Kong, visas are not required only for holders of Special Administrative Region (SAR) passport issued by the Hong Kong SAR of the People’s Republic of China or British National Overseas (BNO) passports who have the right of residence in Hong Kong.​

What is an ICAO-compliant ePassport?
• ePassport validation is the process of verifying the digital signature on the chip of an ePassport to confirm its authenticity and integrity. You can recognise them by the following symbol.

Vaccines & Booster

I don’t have my booster shot what can I do?​
• If you are an adult over 18 years old: you will need to produce a negative PCR test (conducted 72 hours prior to departure from country of origin/region) and may have to undergo quarantine depending on your travel history and country of origin​.

• If you are below the age of 18 who travel with triple-vaccinated parents/guardians you are exempt from the PCR test and quarantine​.

What are the vaccines eligible to enter Japan?
• Recognized vaccines include those by Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Janssen, Bharat Biotech, Sinovac, Sinopharm and Novavax. Please note that someone is considered fully vaccinated after 3 doses

Documents to prepare prior to travel

• Passport – Validity of 6 months minimum
• Proof of vaccination certificate – including 3 doses of approved vaccine
• Completed Fast Track verification within 2 weeks prior to departure to Japan [Access Fast Track on the Visit Japan website link here]

Do note that If you do not complete the quarantine procedure (Fast Track) registration on the Visit Japan Web at least 6 hours before the scheduled arrival date of your flight, you will not be able to use the Fast Track.

✔️ Create an account login​
✔️ Register as a user on Visit Japan with your personal details​
✔️ Upload your planned entry and return dates of travel​
✔️ Upload your vaccination certificates​
✔️ Fill up the disembarkation card for foreigners, and ensure QR code is generated after completion of disembarkation card​
✔️ Enter your customs declaration information, and ensure QR code is generated after completion of customs declaration

At the airport arrival terminals

• All arriving passengers must wear masks. Physical distancing should be ensured.
• Hand sanitization should be done at entry to the arrival terminal.
• All arriving passengers must undergo thermal screening at the arrival terminal.
• Travelers can travel via public taxi or hotel taxi
• If the traveler has a travel booking and stay reservation with Club Med, Club Med will support for transport service and contact the hospital if needed. If the traveler wants to quarantine at Club Med, we will provide isolation room for them .
