Where to stay? Our Resorts to discover the charms of Turkey

Don't miss these must-sees in Turkey:

At the limits of Asia and Europe, natural wonders are waiting for your stay in Turkey

Discover incredible landscapes during your all inclusive stay in Turkey. 3 hours from your Club Med Palmiye resort, make a stop at the Pamukkale natural site to admire its mineralised waterfalls which are a glistening, pristine white.
The magic continues in Cappadoce, at the Göreme National Park. Amongst the rocks forming chimneys, sculpted by erosion, several cave churches are hidden with incredible rock paintings, providing the perfect example of the beauty of Byzantine art.
30 minutes from the park, the wonders don’t cease as you discover the city of Kaymakli and its tunnels covering several kilometres. This underground city, over eight levels, is one of many troglodyte cities for which the region has become famous.

Turkey, a mosaic of civilisations

Nurtured by Ottoman, Greek and Roman influences, Turkey's culture is just as varied as the landscapes.

  • To brush up on your history, head for Ankara and the Museum of Anatolian Civilisations. Its large collection of artefacts, from the Palaeolithic era to the time of the Ottomans is an incredible archaeological journey.

  • Continue your cultural immersion in the ancient Halicarnassus: just 30 minutes from your Club Med Bodrum Palmiye resort, your stay in Turkey leads you to Bodrum’s Greek amphitheatre, which has been perfectly preserved since the 4th century BC.

  • Just a few metres from the amphitheatre, take a running jump into the medieval period by visiting Bodrum Castle, which was built by the Order of Hospitallers.

A holiday taking on all inclusive pleasures and flavours in Turkey

Just like the culture, the cuisine has soaked up various influences, blending Asian, Oriental and Mediterranean flavours. Heading back from the souvenir stands of the Grand Bazaar of Istanbul, try mezze, börek (savoury pastry) and cheeses which are part of the country’s rich culinary culture.

  • Why not take a seat and sip on a Turkish coffee as you admire the Blue Mosque? Discover this model of Ottoman architecture which is the starting point for pilgrims heading to Mecca and delve a little deeper into the secrets at the heart of Turkey.

  • Finally, bring your all inclusive holiday in Turkey to a close with a visit to Hagia Sophia, a basilica symbolising this overlapping of cultures. The first basilica of the Christina era was transformed into a mosque before becoming a museum.

Attractions for the family

Being a major world city, Istanbul has plenty to offer everyone in the way of shops, restaurants, parks, museums and culture – but it’s also home to some great family days out like Legoland, the Miniaturk model park and the Istanbul Aquarium.

Further out, water parks like Tortuga Pirate Island, at Kuşadası and Water World, near Fethiye, are huge fun – and Göynük’s Dinopark is one of the few places around where your kids will be able to ride a T-Rex.

Getting out and about

If you’re staying in an all-inclusive resort, it can often be tempting to stick as close to the bars and restaurants as possible. But Turkey is so full of towns, historical sites and attractions, that it seems a shame to miss out on a few day trips. They’re also a great way of making sure everyone in your family gets to do what they want – from kids to grandparents – with the best destinations offering a mix of different sights and activities. Just visit the Excursions office in the Resort for an offer.

If anyone’s keen on history, the Roman ruins of Xanthos are definitely worth a visit – and they’re comfortably close to the bohemian seaside town of Patra, which has its own fantastic beach and plenty of boutique browsing opportunities for anyone who prefers couture to culture. Elsewhere, the spa town of Dalyan is also one of the best places to go in Turkey for families thanks to its famous mud baths – great for mums and dads who want to detox, and for kids who want to get messy!

The ancient city of Ephesus, once the trade centre of the ancient world, is a must-visit, as is the Sumela Monastery which has just undergone a huge restoration project. Clinging to a cliff near Mt Melat, the 4th century AD monastery is a highlight of the Black Sea.

Finally, you can’t go to Turkey without visiting Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar — 58 streets packed with around 4,000 shops. But get your bargaining skills ready first.
